I’d force the notes themselves apart:

      \temporary \override NoteHead.extra-spacing-width = #'(0 . 5) c16 16 16 
16 \revert NoteHead.extra-spacing-width
      c16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 
16 16 16 16
