not believe the implementation of these types of bars has changed from 2.16
to 2.18.
You believe wrong: http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.18/Documentation/changes/index.html And 2.16 is not the “most current documentation page”, see http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.18/Documentation/notation/bars 


Something buggy is preventing me from getting the most orginary
repeat bars--


So this is not a bug ;)
