Interesting.  This is the first time ever that I've heard about this
rule w.r.t. the double bar.  Actually, I don't believe that this is
correct, at least in the German speaking area.  Indeed, the German
Wikipedia entry exactly corresponds to my knowledge:

The double bar rule is not mentioned.
