Your approach seems right - I don't know of a way to force measure
width. You can fine-tune it by adjusting the scaled duration of the
single hh8. Try these in drumContentsBreak and notice the variation:
s1 { hh8*8 } s1 \noBreak s1 \break
s1 { hh8*4 s2 } s1 \noBreak s1 \break
s1 { hh8*6 s4 } s1 \noBreak s1 \break
The last one seems about right to me. HTH,
