Replacing Accidentals

Is there a way to replace the accidentals used for microtonal intervals with
others? I write 43-tone to the octave microtonal music, and the existing
symbols for 1 1/2 flat, 1/2 flat, 1/2 sharp and 1 1/2 sharp are not what I
would like to use. I'd prefer to have the scale steps more like the
following 7 choices:

flat, --, -, natural, +, ++, #

I have the code to convert my numerical scale steps into the Lilypond
accidentals:

eseh, es, eh, blank, ih, is, isih

If I could just change them into my own arbitrary symbols, I'd be a happy
Lilyponder. What I do now is print out the scores using the following
symbols, which are not what I'd like to use:

bb with a line through it, b, backwards b, natural, + sign with two crosses,
#, ##

I read in a mailing list post the following, but with my limited
understanding can't make any sense of what it says:

There are several possibilities. The simplest is probably to
include TeX commands as text scripts, see
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.0/input/test/out-www/collated-files.html#embedded-tex.ly
To get the correct position, you could play with the extra-offset
property (search the mailing list archives).
It should also be possible to replace ordinary accidentals with
your own symbols by setting properties of the Accidental object, see
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.0/Documentation/user/out-www/lilypond-internals/Accidental.html
but I don't know how tricky it is. It's probably much easier if you
have the symbols available in a font than in .eps graphics files.
