clef and transposition

Hello,

Mhh. I've read the following in the manual:
"By adding _8 or ^8 to the clef name, the clef is transposed one octave down 
or up, respectively."

I've tried to do this (... \clef violin_8 ...) but I got a parse error 
message. Maybe I'm a little bit stupid or so but what was my mistake? :-)
