In 2.18.2, assertions were not enabled by default but only when using
--disable-optimising. I suspect that this triggers here.
Can you give a full backtrace from the debugger? Likely something like
gdb out/bin/lilypond
run /tmp/foo-test-file.ly
bt
should do the trick.
