Yes, the patch needs to have a status of 'started' as well as a patch status of 'new'. Else it won't get filtered properly for the countdown. git-cl will change both of those fields accordingly and automatically if you use it, but if someone creates and manages their patches manually (which is fine too), you need to take care of these fields.
