Exactly. The exceptions for vertical placement of forward slashes were already
there, though.

It's not there yet, but I'll add it.

That's not so easy, because the exceptions are hardcoded inside the formatter
function. To show the defaults (without any exceptions) would require the
whole formatter to be copied to the test case... (I don't seem to be able to
override an internal scheme function from a snippet at all, and even if I use
define-public instead of define, the setting is valid for the whole file and
not only starting at that point, so I'm unable to include both the defaults
without exceptions and the score with exceptions in the same test file).

Attached is the output of all one-digit numbers with only the default settings
and no exceptions. Where do we need an exception?
What is obvious to me:
1/ ... slash too long on the right
5/ ... either move the slash up or make it longer on the left
8/ ... slash hardly visible
9/ ... slash too short on both sides

1\ ... slash too long on the right
5\ ... slash too short on the right
6\ ... slash too short on both sides (hardly visible)
8\ ... slash is ugly

Cheers,
Reinhold
