http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=3664"make test" does run the tests, but it does not compare the results to a baseline. "make check" does that. Neither has dependencies on the binaries, so you first have to let "make all" complete before running the tests.
Regarding partcombine-midi.ly: this brings back the question how much of an overlap is needed for sequencer to recognize a slur? Is there, in fact, _any_ overlap needed beyond the note-off event coming after the note-on event?
Which reminds me: how does your code deal with c'4( c'4) in the same voice? While it is also a puzzle for the human performer, "overlap" does not seem feasible here. Perhaps leave the note-off event altogher in this case?
