Seconded. A virtual machine with "stock" XP will need several full days of running "Windows Update" to bring it up to SP3 + all latest patches. I know because I just re-created one a few weeks ago using an old XP install disk.
On the other hand, $dayjob is still using XP. Corporate IT just okayed to transition to Win7 last month. <g>
The virtual machine images, even the one for XP, come fully patched as of their date of release. For the XP one I mentioned earlier, that'd be July 2012.
