Bob, that's really not fair!  The reason 1.4 didn't do extra C++ and
f77 tests was because it only supported C!!!  The multi-language-branch
merge was the driver for bumping the release number to 1.5 -- a mere
2.5 years ago.

Regardless, for existing C language users (the only language that 1.4 claimed to support), the new behavior was clearly a "regression" in 1.5.

It did not take Albert long to submit a patch to fix the problem but since 2.0 was right around the corner, fixing the problem was postponed to 2.0.
