I may be convinced that we should not provide a backward-compatible
interface in this case. But _then_, we should use a different name,
so that linking will fail hard with an undefined reference/symbol. I
don't trust this in the compiler's hands only (as opposed to both the
link editor and the runtime linker).
Can we agree on a name change? It probably needs a bump of CURRENT
(and setting AGE and REVISION to 0), and a simultaneous change of CVS
HEAD m4, I believe. Any other sufferers?
