Hmm.  Where was that upstream documented again?  Which actual bugs do
these changes fix?

The last major update of the cmdline parsing code introduced 2 or 3 bugs
into the libtool script, one of which was hard to find.  Unless there is
a very good reason to do so, I'm not very happy with this change before
2.0, as it introduces lots of new code.  After that, it's probably ok,
but I haven't read the patch closely yet.
