It seems that this patch is not sufficient. Libltdl does some strange things. I get a dialog box "The application or DLL c:\blah\ltdl\.libs\libltdl.a is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

Why does libltdl attempt to dynamically load .a files?

As you rightly diagnose in another thread, it simply tries each of the
files in library_names...
