Agreed on all counts. And I think I already mentioned in another thread that I think if we choose a sensible scheme for libtool now, we have the opportunity to set a standard.

Whether all compile-time compiler options should be passed on to the compiler *is* something which should be considered for the forthcoming release.

I agree with your arguments that passing through is not evil, so I have applied Albert's patch for the next alpha in the hope that it won't stir up any trouble... in which case we should leave it in for 2.0.
