Yes, every one of the tests passed for G++, however
IBM's compiler was not so lucky.  I fixed what I could
track down, but stopped there.  So xlC support is
_almost_ there.  I will continue to work on it if I
have time and motivation, but not for awhile.
  So I'm aware, are there any other conventions for
contributing that I should know about?  Do I edit
ChangeLog and send in a patch for that?  Is there
a FAQ somewhere that touches on contributing to GNU
in general?

Well spotted.

Yes, I am afraid so.  The rule of thumb is `more than 10 lines of code
requires a copyright assignment'.  ISTR adding the links to our web
pages a long time ago...

There is definitely a page on contributing which does cover patch
formats and suchlike.
