Two objections:

1) It's not a "purist point of view", but the point of view of someone
who cares about technological sovereignty. When you learn to drive, you
also learn traffic laws.

2) It's not "OSS", but free software--see previous references to
>>> http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/open-source-misses-the-point.html

Coding is not just yet another curriculum: it's learning to *realize*
ideas, turn them into reality. It's learning about how to learn, and
learning how to produce technologies that do not come inside a box from
a store. The power of coding (or electronics, or fabrication, or craft
for that matter) goes well beyond intellectual knowledge. There are two
models for coding: the competitive, and the cooperative; proprietary
software, and free software. Certainly free software can be
competitive, but proprietary software cannot be cooperative: it forbids
the user to contribute to the software, and often forbids the developer
to share their code. So I don't think teaching coding is orthogonal to
the ethics of inventing technologies.
