Having led / created 5 Ubuntu LoCo teams I can tell you the version
introduced to newcomers is very much always the default one (so, with
Unity + all) at all events/discussions. In that context the "Ubuntu
w/Unity" is very much the default experience. As an advocate I can't
suggest installing that without getting asked about it and going into
lengthy discussions and work to explain and remove such features (Ubuntu
One, the dash-search, Unity itself, non-free software, etc.).

By the time you have the "default' Ubuntu experience, you won't be
investing time and installation again to go to Kubuntu, Lubuntu, etc...
With Trisquel the discussion is *zero* in such aspects and so far
everyone I've talked about it that used Ubuntu show a lot of interest in
helping with Trisquel or Debian (my choice of distributions) rather than
going for Ubuntu.
