Probably not damaged, you might hear random noise that's all. You
actually output from the line out on the debugged machine, to the
line-in on the machine used for monitoring (you use a male-male audio
cable). On the monitoring machine is the "modem" (implemented in
software) that converts the "audio" signal into data (text) - same way
a normal modem works (this actually is a real modem).
