I have:

automake: 1.10-46
autoconf:  2.61-47

installed.  This is a pretty standard SuSE 10.3 installation with, I think, 
all the usual development tools installed.  I don't know if it matters, but 
it is a Lenovo T61 with the 64 bit version of the operating system.
