Microphone is not on during video calls.

Hi,

 I tried to video call my brother today and we could see each other but not
hear each other. Both of us had microphone icons with a slash over them,
when we tapped them they didn't turn on. We both have allowed the
microphone in our app permissions. So how does one turn on the microphone
for a video call.
