No, I'am not using ldap service.
address@hidden xinetd.d]# ps -edfl | grep -i sldap
0 S root      9742  8924  0  76   0 -  1309 pipe_w 10:03 pts/0    00:00:00 grep 
-i ldap
address@hidden xinetd.d]# ps -edfl | grep -i slurpd
0 R root      9744  8924  0  77   0 -  1102 -      10:03 pts/0    00:00:00 grep 
-i slurpd
address@hidden xinetd.d]# ldapsearch 
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Can't contact LDAP server (-1)

My <jail>/etc/passwd look like this :
address@hidden etc]# cat /home/jail/etc/passwd 
root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash
fred:x:509:510:User chrooted:/home/fred:/bin/bash

And my real password like :
address@hidden init.d]# cat /etc/passwd
root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash
...
fred:x:509:510:User chrooted:/home/jail/./home/fred:/usr/sbin/jk_chrootsh

ok, so nscd is not the problem. Are you using ldap? (that can give the same 
problem)

and what does <jail>/etc/passwd look like?
