Hi!

I've got an Yakumo Hypersound 124 USB memory stick, with included mp3 player.
The filesystem on this device is msdos, so I decided to use mtools.
I put

# Yakumo mp3 stick
drive y: file="/dev/sdd1"
mtools_lower_case=1
mtools_skip_check=1

into my /etc/mtools.conf

Then I used mcopy to put a few mp3's to the stick:

media> mcopy -v ~/MP3/ROCK/By_The_Way/ y:
Copying By_The_Way
Copying 03-red_hot_chili_peppers-this_is_the_place-just.mp3
Copying 04-red_hot_chili_peppers-dosed-just.mp3
Copying 10-red_hot_chili_peppers-throw_away_your_television-just.mp3
Copying 12-red_hot_chili_peppers-tear-just.mp3
Copying 14-red_hot_chili_peppers-minor_thing-just.mp3
Copying 07-red_hot_chili_peppers-cant_stop-just.mp3
Copying 11-red_hot_chili_peppers-cabron-just.mp3
Copying 02-red_hot_chili_peppers-universally_speaking-just.mp3
Copying 09-red_hot_chili_peppers-midnight-just.mp3
Copying 01-red_hot_chili_peppers-by_the_way-just.mp3
Copying 08-red_hot_chili_peppers-i_could_die_for_you-just.mp3
Copying 16-red_hot_chili_peppers-venice_queen-just.mp3
Copying 06-red_hot_chili_peppers-the_zephyr_song-just.mp3
Copying 15-red_hot_chili_peppers-warm_tape-just.mp3
Copying 05-red_hot_chili_peppers-dont_forget_me-just.mp3
Copying 13-red_hot_chili_peppers-on_mercury-just.mp3
Copying md5sum

After instantly reading them back (mcopy -v y:/by_the_way/ .) and verifying
the md5sum, everything is fine.
But after unplugging the stick... (The stick-onboard software gets active and
does weird thing to the sticks dosfs) ... and plugging it in again:

test> mcopy -v y:/by_the_way/ .
Copying Y:/by_the_way
Copying Y:/by_the_way/03-red_hot_chili_peppers-this_is_the_place-just.mp3
Copying Y:/by_the_way/04-red_hot_chili_peppers-dosed-just.mp3
Copying
Y:/by_the_way/10-red_hot_chili_peppers-throw_away_your_television-just.mp3
Copying Y:/by_the_way/12-red_hot_chili_peppers-tear-just.mp3
Copying Y:/by_the_way/14-red_hot_chili_peppers-minor_thing-just.mp3
Copying Y:/by_the_way/07-red_hot_chili_peppers-cant_stop-just.mp3
Copying Y:/by_the_way/11-red_hot_chili_peppers-cabron-just.mp3
Copying Y:/by_the_way/02-red_hot_chili_peppers-universally_speaking-just.mp3
Copying Y:/by_the_way/09-red_hot_chili_peppers-midnight-just.mp3
Copying Y:/by_the_way/01-red_hot_chili_peppers-by_the_way-just.mp3
Copying Y:/by_the_way/08-red_hot_chili_peppers-i_could_die_for_you-just.mp3
Copying Y:/by_the_way/16-red_hot_chili_peppers-venice_queen-just.mp3
Copying Y:/by_the_way/06-red_hot_chili_peppers-the_zephyr_song-just.mp3
Fat problem while decoding 19237 0
Streamcache allocation problem:Y 4

I think, that some incompatibilities must have occured between mtools and the
dosfs expected by the usb-stick onboard software, which altered (corrupted)
the filesystem then.
I tried it on a windows box too, no problems occured with the same files :(

I have to note, that this occurs only with _very_ few files. Until now, the
red-hot-chili-peppers are the only files with which this error occurs (what
the fuck... is wrong with them ?!)

Maybe someone has an idea how to track this error down?!
(btw, mounting the stick with "mount -t vfat -o fat=16 ..." leads to same
problems, with these certain files - linux kernel 2.4.23)

I'm using mtools-3.9.9-20030718

Hannes
