I just did a 'cvs update -Pd' command and got the list of updates. It had
letters like U (for Updated?) , M (for Merged?) . Similarly, it had "P" next
to most. Couldn't find anywhere what that is suppose to mean. Please help.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

short Summary: P is for 'P'atch, which is a fast way to 'U'pdate, so squint until P looks like U. :)

longer Summary:
When the folks who coded CVS did an optimization such that a PATCH was sent from server to client, instead of the whole file, they wanted to know the code was being tickled as expected and thus they output "P" for patch. Therefore P means U was done extra fast as a patch instead of the whole file. Unfortunately the P has confused _Users_ ever since.

Hope this helps.
