cvs or svn for common light weight users

Not starting a religious war I hope but many of you may have seen
things like I have around the linux community saying cvs is on its way
out and svn is the `wave of the future'.  Is this just someones
opinion mostly or is there something to it?

My usage has always been pretty minimal, on a single user home lan
setup.  Keeping up with OS config documents (for 7-8 machines) and all
the scripting and programming I do.  That amounts to some 700
documents currently in my cvsroot. 

I wondered what the feeling was here about the future of cvs.
And what a user with my needs should be getting into.

I've barely scratched the surface of cvs over the last 8-9 yrs, so its
not like I found a lot of shortcoming or needs cvs couldn't handle.  I
have stumbled around a few times wishing it handled directories better
but at my level of usage its not a big deal,

I guess I'm asking if I should even worry about switching to svn.
I've heard it will soon be the default in some linux distributions.
