Hi Danish,
Generally, the user 'root' is prohibited from doing CVS operations.
The CVS application is not really safe for 'root' users not to assume
that their privilege is being exploited, so by default the user 'root'
is not allowed to be a real user for the system. Under :pserver: it will
switch to the correct user to be used, but your $CVSROOT entry makes that
harder to handle.
In addition to this problem, it is possible you will have problems with
port 2401 being firewalled and/or not properly setup on the GNU/Linux
server. You should see if you can access the repository locally from the
GNU/Linux box still going over your :pserver: method first to ensure
that evertyhing has been properly setup.
