That should work. Make sure you back up the repository first (and also
make sure you can restore from said backup!).

If I may suggest an alternative: if the other developers don't need the
history of the files, you could export the latest version to a working
directory, scrub the working directory, then import the files into a new
repository as version 1.1. Just a thought.
