This comment seems to pop up occasionally in this list, and I think it's
time it got challenged.

I believe Windows 95 Explorer _may_ have arbitrarily _displayed_ the name in
a canonical format (first letter uppercase, followed by all lower-case
letters IIRC) but I believe the case of the name was always preserved (a
'dir' command at the command prompt would indicate the correct case).

I've been using Windows NT and XP (the "NT family") for several years, and
in my experience, the NT family always maintains and displays the exact case
that you give the file when it was created. I have never seen it arbitrarily
change the case of a file name. 

Can you, or anyone else, provide any use-cases where Windows NT, 2K or XP
have not preserved the case of the name you provide?
