If you are at version 2.4.20-28.7 of the kernel and glibc-2.2.4-33, then I doubt that there is an mmap bug around any longer. If you are not at that level, you may wish to look into getting some updates from ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.1/en/os/ while they are still available.
We've not made any patches to 7.1 here. I would have to consult with the Powers That Be before I could make such a major change. The idea is that all machines on all sites that run Webspeed run it under the same conditions. We have to be careful that we don't switch to an OS that our software suppliers will not support (although admittedly we could probably be running RH8.0 by now).
In any case I can't seem to duplicate the problem on the cvs server of a second, identical box. Which would *suggest* that kernel/glibc versions aren't the problem. Sorry. I wish I could say something more certain.
