I understand perfectly what I am doing.  I may not understand perfectly
what someone else is doing with that old path.  And I may not understand
perfectly what my predecessor did with my file in its distant past.
If I did, I would not be seeking out its history, now would I?

In any case, your wrapper script is insufficient; it doesn't display
my file's entire history without the cruft of a second (or third or
fourth) that happen to have shared a path with my file at some point.
