WARNING: The above method keeps any local changes you have made to the
code.

I assume you mean:
cvs update -pr 1.2 queue.cc >queue.cc
cvs commit -m "Rolled back to 1.2" queue.cc
This is also perfectly valid and is what most people in my company do.
