FYI, file system support for ACLs (man setfacl for info) would make your patch
redundant. I think such support would also be a little more bullet-proof than
this patch.

By popular demand, I have added the ability to have user groups. You
can assign a user to one or more groups and just maintain the
permissions on the group's name, not the individual users. This
should be mighty handy for a lot of people, including me.
The documentation has been updated to describe how to do this, see
the documentation for more details.
