You mean command line oriented? 
Of course it works.
A working Linux...But you mean the speed and capacity of your hd.
What you need is based on the project you would like to host
with CVS. I know people who are using a CVS server with
a 386' 32 MB-Ram and a 500 MB Hard Disk.

It would be helpfull if you write some details about what
you like to put into CVS...
