cannot add a file because of old RCSfile

I do not know how to handle the following error:
cvs server: cannot add file `Makefile' when RCS file `/cvsroot/quantlib/QuantLib/Linux/Makefile,v' already exists
cvs [server aborted]: correct above errors first!

I screwed up something while adding/moving/renaming the files makefile/MAKEFILE/Makefile in the Linux folder of a module called QuantLib.

Now if I run:
cvs update -A -d (in directory E:\Projects\QuantLib\Linux)
I obtain:
cvs server: Updating .
cvs server: nothing known about Makefile
cvs server: nothing known about makefile

*****CVS exited normally with code 0*****

[E:\Projects\ is my local dir where I checked out the
QuantLib module]

Then I create a new Makefile file and I try:
cvs add Makefile (in directory E:\Projects\QuantLib\Linux)
with the following result:
cvs server: scheduling file `Makefile' for addition
cvs server: use 'cvs commit' to add this file
permanently

*****CVS exited normally with code 0*****

finally I try to commit:
cvs commit -m "no message" Makefile (in directory E:\Projects\QuantLib\Linux)
but unfortunately I just obtain:
cvs server: cannot add file `Makefile' when RCS file `/cvsroot/quantlib/QuantLib/Linux/Makefile,v' already exists
cvs [server aborted]: correct above errors first!

*****CVS exited normally with code 1*****

Please help me.
I did my best to get out of this frustrating situation with no luck

thank you in advance

ciao -- Nando
