Yes (also VOB InstantCopy, which comes with the Pioneer drive,
and Fireburner, so it's very likely not related to cdrdao)

Tried that, had no effect on the problem, still the same error.

I've now managed to write a vcdimager generated image using
the drive, by means of using a sector size of 2336 bytes
and using Fireburner in Session-At-Once mode (strangely
enough, it doesn't even offer DAO with the Pioneer)

I've also read various unspecific whining about using
the DVR-A03 as a CD writer; it may just be that the drive
is not a good replacement for a classical CD writer...
