Ok.  I just wanted to make clear that makeinfo wouldn't feel usurped.
I am ready to do a backend as soon as the format is finished!

One thing that could be useful is to have a way to generate SXML from
XML, as I haven't found a perl module that does that.  For the other
suff, unless I am missing something, for now makeinfo is the best place
to generate everything.
