This issue should be fixed in the upcoming 6.1 release by changeset 
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/0915fec3d3a9?revcount=160 

I will test whether this fix also solves the issue unlocking a session
with Octave running in full screen mode.
