Sometimes the response it too quick. In this case the problem isn’t with your octave control package, but with your fortran compiler. This is an issue you will have to raise with the Homebrew folks.

This seemed to work. The file modification date changed, and no errors where displayed.

After rebuilding a new tar archive for the patched control-3.1.0, I tried again to install the control package by running the command line version of Octave,

This is still throwing the same errors as before:
