Yeah, that's a known problem with gnuplot 5 and Octave, see

I have both gnuplot 4.6.6 and 5.0.1, with 4.6.6 it works fine for me
(and OP has 4.6).

​If i get gnuplot to use "epscairo" terminal (instead of the old "postscript")
everything seems to be working fine. May be this is the simplest fix.
