The stumbling block for me has been that the package managers appear to
require XCode, which Apple's app store says is only available for OS 10.9.
Because I have full-disk encryption on my OS 10.8.5 Macbook, I'm told that
upgrading to Mavericks is fairly involved. But perhaps I'll have to bite the
bullet and do that.
