Thanks, that would be nice.
I've since found out that a colleague had to patch out the same functions when
compiling older versions of Octave on SLE 10.3. With Octave >= 3.8.1, this
approach doesn't seem to work anymore, though.

And indeed, I am also using Intel compilers. Maybe this is an icpc vs g++
issue?
