Another tidbit
Running octave-gui with the debugger produces the following text
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
[Switching to Thread 7460.0x261c]
0x68a807c0 in liboctinterp-2!_ZN5ArrayIdED2Ev ()
from c:\Octave\Octave-3.8.1\bin\liboctinterp-2.dll
I am running without symbols right now so limited debugging info.
