Hm, looks like Ubuntu has started to modify the Debian packages:
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/universe/o/octave-symbolic/octave-symbolic_1.0.9-1build1/changelog
Looks like a minor change... but it does mean I will have to be more
careful from now on about telling people that the Ubuntu Octave
packages are grabbed without modification from Debian.
I recommend you file a bug report with Ubuntu in order to address
this, because the Debian package is working for me.
