This thread may be useful to you. http://www.nabble.com/java-and-linux-to18206506.html#a18230358 It starts assuming that you have installed jdk 1.6 and goes through installing GLUEGEN, JOGL and Jhandles. In my situation the package manager did not work as I installed octave forge packages using yum instead of the package manager.
