Though gnuplot-4.2.3 is recommended is recommended, mouse zooming doesn't work 
with it.

Try

http://gnuplot.sourceforge.net/development/binaries/gnuplot-4.3.0-2008-04-26.tar.gz

if you want mouse zooming, or fetch from their CVS.
