hi there,
thanks for the many replies. I don't know whether one of them is more 
efficient than the others, so I will have a look at all. Indeed I was 
expecting that it is trivial to write a Heaviside function, I was just 
asking if such a function was already built-in. What I am trying to do 
is to run the codes in http://arxiv.org/abs/0704.1622
As a matter of fact, I did not find a builtin Heaviside function in 
MATLAB either, contrary to what the authors seem to assume....
