Hi,
a = [ 1, 1, 2; 3, 5, 8; 13, 21, 34 ]
works just fine on my box. Octave 2.1.36 is pretty old so you might want
to install a newer version. On windows it's recommended to install
cygwin (www.cygwin.com) and use it to install octave.
