I downloaded the RPM, installed it and now everything works fine. Thank you very much. I am just curious about one thing: what code in the previous octave-forge could conflict with the new octave package in such a way to cause segmentation faults? I used to think that a new octave release without a new octave-forge release could break octave-forge, but not octave itself. Thanks again,
I really don't completely understand it myself, and I don't really want to go back to the state my octave installation was in this morning. However, I think it may have had something to do with the fact that the dispatch.oct function from octave-forge is loaded at startup, and it would have been linked to old versions of the octave libraries, which must have been changed when I linked to HDF5.
