I installed Octave 2.1.50 on my Panther based iMac via Darwinports. 
In fact I only became aware of Octave from reading the Darwinports 
description; I had been thinking of buying a new version of MatLab 
until then. My Octave has worked flawlessly since I installed it a 
few weeks ago.
